Actress Mariette Hartley was the founder and has been working closely with the organization American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s “Out of the Darkness Walk” for many years now after her own personal experience dealing with her father’s suicide.
She and Gary are returning again this year to participate in the annual Out of the Darkness Walk in Santa Monica this Saturday, and want you to come join the cause to help remember lost loved ones. Mariette joined us on the K-EARTH 101 Morning Show to talk more about this organization and how you can help!
The annual Out of the Darkness Walk takes place this Saturday, Oct. 22nd in Santa Monica at 9 a.m., with donations collected from the walk going towards the AFSP’s research and education programs to help prevent suicide.
“It gets bigger and better all the time, and now of course, it’s national, so we’re getting more and more states involved , which is really fabulous,” Mariette told Gary.
“It’s not a depressing thing, it’s a celebration, it’s a remembrance. We have the loved ones that we lost — we have their pictures often on t-shirts…and everybody meets everybody,” she continued.
