Five Great Moments In Rock ‘N’ Roll History

In honor of K-EARTH 101’s 40th Anniversary next year, we’re getting a head start and celebrating some of the greatest moments in rock music history! Check out some of our favorite moments and make sure to post your most memorable rock moments to the list!

#5. Michael Jackson Lands The Moonwalk

Michael Jackson was always known for his phenomenal dance moves, but none would become more signature than his Moonwalk. He debuted the new move during his performance of “Billie Jean” on Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever on March 25, 1983, and would be move replicated by generations after.

#4. David Bowie Debuts Ziggy Stardust

David Bowie debuted his androgynous alter ego Ziggy Stardust & the Spiders from Mars in 1972, launching the whole new movement of glam rock and creating one of the most influence albums of the decade.

#3. Elvis Shakes Up Sullivan

Making his first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1956, Elvis Presley was shot only from the waist up, because producers thought his hip-shaking moves were too sexual for the TV audience. This TV appearance of course only made his young girl fan base go even more wild over The King of Rock and Roll.

#2. Jimi Hendrix Rocks Woodstock

Over half a million rock fans flocked out to a farm field in New York in 1969 for one of biggest and history changing festivals in history. Guitar great [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jimi Hendrix[/lastfm] was just one of the dozens of influential artists playing at Woodstock, and his electric take on the Star Spangled Banner would forever go down in history.

#1. The Beatles Take Over America

The Beatles were already a well established band in Europe, but it wasn’t until they made their debut in the states when ‘Beatlemania’ took full effect. The Fab Four made the U.S. TV debut on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964, and quickly after “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” flew to the top of the charts, and the rest they say is history.
