The grand premiere of ex-American Idol judge Simon Cowell’s U.S. version of his popular British talent competition show The X Factor finally hit TV sets around the country, but only pulled in about half the ratings as the season premiere of American Idol back in January.
Not only that, but The X Factor lost out in ratings to the new season premieres of Modern Family and Criminal Minds in the same time slot, so we’re wondering…do you think The X Factor has enough star power to be as popular as its biggest competitor American Idol, or is there only enough room for one singing competition show on TV?
After all the buzz and promotion for Simon Cowell’s X Factor premiere, the new singing competition show only pulled in an 8.7 rating on its series premiere — only half compared to Idol’s last season premiere with a 16.4 rating.
But The X Factor shouldn’t be discouraged just yet — Idol only scored a 6.1 rating for its series premiere back in 2002 and has had years to work up to a loyal audience. But will that audience switch over to Simon’s newest talent show?
Let us know what you thought about the premiere of The X Factor? Does it have what it takes to be as big as Idol?!
