Not only is Simon Cowell’s new singing competition show X-Factor going head to head with his former stomping ground of American Idol with its U.S. premiere debuting tonight, but the show is rekindling the old cola wars between the major giants Pepsi and Coke.
Pepsi has signed on as the major sponsor for the new show in an effort to re-embrace the music world by airing ads paying tribute to their nostalgia commercials featuring superstars like [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Michael Jackson[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Madonna[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Ray Charles[/lastfm], while Coke is sticking solely with American Idol.
So this new rivalry sparks the question: X-Factor vs. American Idol/Pepsi vs. Coke? Which do you like better?
During the U.S. premiere of Simon Cowell’s X-Factor featuring fellow judges Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger and LA Reid, Pepsi is re-launching their cola-music campaign paying tribute to their classic commercials that feature music stars like MJ, Britney Spears, Mariah Carey and even Ray Charles.
Not only is X-Factor creating a new rivalry with American Idol, but they’re also unintentionally re-sparking the old cola wars between Pepsi and Coke. With Coke sticking to the reigning champ of American Idol, Pepsi has signed on with X-Factor, giving the winner of the show a spot in their 2012 Superbowl Pepsi commercial.
So we want to know, who do you think will come out on top — X-Factor/Pepsi or American Idol/Coke? Tell us which you like better!
