Remembering 9/11/01: Jim Carson, On-Air Personality
I was hosting the morning show on K-EARTH-101 on that horrific day in our country’s history. We always had the TV monitors on in the studio with the sound muted to one of the news channels.
We saw a ‘breaking news’ graphic with the crawl stating that a plane had crashed into one of the towers at the World Trade Center. I remember reading that in the 1940s’ a World War ll bomber had crashed in a heavy fog into the Empire State building. My first thought was with today’s technology how could that possibly happen. It wasn’t long after that first ‘breaking news’ report video came in on a second plane crashing into one of the towers. Then word of yet another plane crashing into the Pentagon.
Needless to say that with the days tragic events, a ‘din’ came over everyone. After the second tower was hit we switched to our sister station KNX carrying their news feed on a simulcast, and evacuated our old hallowed building on Venice Boulevard, with everyone standing out by the old KHJ towers in total disbelief.
