Did You Know: “Last Train To Clarksville” By The Monkees

On ‘Tickets @2’ it’s [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Monkees[/lastfm] hit “Last Train To Clarksville.” It was written by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart, a songwriting team that came up with songs not only for The Monkees but for [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Chubby Checker[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jay And The Americans[/lastfm].

Boyce and Hart wrote it as a protest to the Vietnam War. They had to keep it quiet in order to get it recorded it’s about a guy who gets drafted, the train is taking him to an army base, he knows he may die in Vietnam. At the end of the song he states,”I don’t know if I’m ever coming home.”

We’ll take caller #4 to win tickets to see the Tchaikovsky Spectacular at the Verizon Wireless amphitheatre this Saturday at 1-800-232-KRTH (5784).
