‘Hound Dog’ Songwriter Jerry Leiber Dead At 78

Along with writing partner Mike Stoller, Jerry Leiber penned some of the greatest classics of the rock and roll era.  The New York Times is reporting that the man responsible for [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Elvis Presley[/lastfm]’s Hound Dog, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Coasters[/lastfm]’ Yakety Yak, and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Ben E. King[/lastfm]’s Stand By Me passed away Monday in California at the age of 78 of cardio-pulmonary failure.

Leiber and Stoller were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987, honoring over three decades of their amazing hit factory.  Let’s take a look at 10 classic tunes from the Leiber and Stoller songbook and be prepared to exclaim, “I didn’t know they wrote that!”
