Rod Asks The Musical Question: Do Ya Think I'm Sexy? (YouTube)
[lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Rod Stewart[/lastfm] putting the squeeze on an unidentified brunette in animal print spandex. Yeah, it was 1978.
By the time Rod Stewart released Blondes Have More Fun in December 1978, he’d long left London and his raw blues sound behind.
So it was no surprise when this 10-song, 43-minute set kicked off with Rod’s entry into the disco thing with “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?” In retrospect, it all sounds a little silly but, at the time, it was funky enough to sell 250,000 copies a week, at the time the biggest seller in Warner Brothers history. It went to the top of the charts in eleven countries and, in a hugely generous show of philanthropy, Stewart donated all the publishing royalties to UNICEF.
Supported by the Top 25 single “Ain’t Love A Bitch,” Blondes Have More Fun sold more than a million copies within the first 30 days of its release.
Three million more have followed.
