Doing their best to get all the original members on board for a reunion to celebrate their 50th anniversary of their surf-pop hits, the Beach Boys are making some progress with the announcement that new music is on the way! [photogallerylink id=43249 align=left]
“Where we’re at right now is Brian (Wilson)’s written some songs, I’ve written some songs (and) we’re talking very seriously about getting together and co-writing and doing some new music together,” Mike Love tells Billboard.com. “He’s been doing his own touring, we’ve been doing ours and so we haven’t really been able to lock into that, but it looks like this fall we will. It just makes a lot of sense with a milestone such as 50 years to get together and do something.”
Love has also stated that a reunion show featuring all the members isn’t out of the question, but is hesitant to include Wilson in the lineup because of his indecision of the reunion show. He’s mentioned the idea of getting original members Bruce Johnston and Al Jardine together to perform one or more shows for their 50th anniversary, but Wilson isn’t completely opposed to the idea.
The Beach Boys’ last new release was 1996’s Stars and Stripes Volume 1, so they’re long overdue to release new music!
