A man known for his mob-buster thrillers isn’t the first person you’d think would be at the helm of creating an in-depth documentary on the former guitarist of the Beatles, but Martin Scorsese has brought to life the memory of the late George Harrison in a new HBO documentary.

Like many, Scorsese has always been inspired and moved by the music from the Beatles and Harrison himself, and was compelled to share his story on film.

“George’s music always spoke directly to me,” Scorsese told Rolling Stone. “So directly that I don’t think I realized just how inspiring he’d been for me until I made the picture.”

The doc George Harrison: Living in the Material World will air in two parts on HBO this October, and features riveting interviews with the people who knew Harrison the best including his widow Olivia, fellow Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Yoko Ono, Tom Petty, Terry Gilliam and more.

Scorsese was also given a personal collection of home videos and photos from Harrison’s widow and co-producer Olivia to use in the film to show a side of Harrison many fans have never seen before!
