At Age 66, John Fogerty Considers Himself A ‘Fortunate Son’

After more than six decades on this earth, it appears [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]John Fogerty[/lastfm] has put to rest much of what has angered him. From greedy, high-powered lawyers to his former bandmates of [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Creedence Clearwater Revival[/lastfm], Fogerty has finally made peace with himself and even considers a reunion with CCR a possibility.

No…hell hasn’t frozen over, ~~the Red Sox haven’t won a World Series,~~ and pigs aren’t flying. John Fogerty just feels very fortunate after 66 years of living life.

“I really don’t dwell too much on what happened or why in the past. As some wise mystic once said, ‘It is what it is,’” Fogerty told the Calgary Herald. “There’s nothing I can do about it so to enjoy what I can do from here on is really a blessing, I’m just having a great time.”

Part of that great time is due to his appearance at the Baseball Hall of Fame last summer when he performed his 1985 single, “Centerfield,” and donated his baseball-bat-shaped guitar to the Hall of Fame that day.

“I felt like a little boy the whole time I was there… For a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon my feet were two or three feet off the ground,” says Fogerty.

But maybe the most surprising news from Fogerty is his openness to a reunion with Creedence Clearwater Revival. Their bitter and angered split in 1972 resonated for decades. Fogerty refused to play songs from his time with CCR, including hits like “Fortunate Son,” “Bad Moon Rising,” and “Proud Mary,” all of which he wrote himself. And when Creedence was inducted into the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, Fogerty refused to share the stage with the band.

That animosity has faded quite a bit. Fogerty notices his reaction to the reunion question has changed over the years.

“Years ago, I looked at people and I was so full of some sort of emotion and I’d say, ‘Absolutely not!’… But I have to admit, people have asked me more recently, and even though I have no idea how such a series of events would come to pass, I can tell that there isn’t the bombast in my voice, in the denial, in the refusal. It’s more like, ‘Well, I dunno.’ Never say never is I guess is what people tell you.”

Fogerty credits his wife Julie with his transformation, who has helped keep his head on straight. “I truly feel very fortunate. I usually look at my wife and say, ‘I’m the luckiest man in the whole world.’”

Though there are no plans for a Creedence Clearwater Reunion, but we shouldn’t rule one out. We thought seeing [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Buffalo Springfield[/lastfm] together again was a long shot, but after forty-three years it eventually happened. Though their Fall tour has been postponed until early 2012, it still happened!

Fogerty also has a new album in the works, but he has been very secretive with details because of the special nature of the project and the involvement of other musicians, whom he doesn’t have control over.
