Did You Know: “Oh Girl” By The Chi-Lites

Today’s ‘Tickets @ 2’ song is by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Chi-Lites[/lastfm], it’s “Oh Girl.”

The # 1 hit was written and sung by group leader Eugene Record. The other three Chi-Lites contributed a few wordless harmonies and one line per verse.

Of the many cover versions (by Paul Young, Leo Sayer, Smokey Robinson among others), nearly everyone swiped the harmonica part, proof of how key it is to the song’s arrangement.

Eugene initially dismissed the song saying, “I gave the record company 7 songs on a tape and he called to say there’s a #1 tune in there. I named them all before ‘Oh Girl’ and thought he was kidding.”

When we play it between two and three we’re not kidding, we’ll take caller # 9 to win a pair of tickets to see The Steve Miller Band at the Pacific Amphitheatre; 1-800-232-KRTH (5784).
