Today on ‘Tickets @2′ it’s a hit from Oklahoma-born David Gates and his group [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Bread[/lastfm], “The Guitar Man.” A haunting song with simple, but telling lyrics about life as a musician and his relationship with the fans.

Session guy Larry Knechtel played the lead guitar in the song. Lead singer David Gates said James Griffin went out and tried to play a solo that wasn’t sounding right, and I went out and tried it and didn’t have any luck either. Larry hooked up a wah-wah pedal, and came up with all those licks on the spot. David said: “I bet it wasn’t more than two hours of work on his part.”

At the ending of the song, there is a recording of a crowd yelling, it was a crowd yelling after an announcer introduced Jim Morrison at a Doors concert with the announcer edited out.

We’ll take lucky caller 13 when it plays between two & three to win tickets to see Pacific Symphony’s “Elvis-Lives” at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre; 1-800-232-KRTH (5784).
