For today’s episode of Three Best, we dip into the catalog of [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]10cc[/lastfm].
#3 “Good Morning Judge” (from Deceptive Bends): “Good Morning Judge” illustrates that 10cc was a whole lot more fun (and funkier) than the few singles that were played on the radio. It combines a great guitar riff that sounds like an Anglicized [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Black Oak Arkansas[/lastfm], vocals that sound like [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Be-Bop Deluxe[/lastfm] and a solo that comes off like the [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Allman Brothers[/lastfm]. Back in ’77, when we’d have backyard keggers, all the cheerleaders would dance to this one.
#2 “I’m Not in Love” (from The Original Soundtrack): Yes, it’s the mellow-ballad, everybody-knows-it, sing-along 10cc, but it does exemplify Lol Creme’s and Kevin Godley’s splendid sense of melody. For what it’s worth, when it came out in 1975, I was always in love….daily.
#1 “Dreadlock Holiday” (from Bloody Tourists): He’s alone and a long way from home. Of course, he loves reggae, cricket and Jamaica…and he’ll love it to the proper rhythm, thank you. Their funniest and most groovy song.
All three tunes, by the way, can be found on their Greatest Hits record.
