Simon Cowell, the former ruthless judge on American Idol, is bringing his hit U.K. competition show X Factor for the first time to American television this season. Auditions in Los Angeles kick off this weekend, and any starry-eyed hopeful from ages 12 and beyond is welcome to show off their talents for a chance to compete on the show.

Although X Factor is a similar to the Brit’s former judge gig on Idol, Cowell promises X Factor brings a little extra ‘umph’ in its package and is more extreme than his Idol days. Listen to Cowell’s exclusive interview with Gary and Lisa this morning to see what you can expect on X Factor!

We’re used to seeing the tight-black shirted Cowell in the judges seat on American Idol, but the blunt music critic is bringing his hit U.K. show to America for the first time this season. The show has done very well in the U.K. by allowing both aspiring solo singers and groups try out to become the next big star.

And the pro to Cowell’s X Factor? There’s no age cap to audition for the show. You can be as young as 12 years old or in your hundreds, it doesn’t matter, if you have the talent for success, that’s all the matters. No one could have expected the breakout success for [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Susan Boyle[/lastfm] on Cowell’s other, other show Britain’s Got Talent, and the next unknown is just waiting to be discovered here in America.

Cowell says about his show, “It’s always been very controversial. It’s definitely got a lot of insanity in it, which I kind of encourage and I like that.”

And what could be more controversial and insane as having former judge counterpart Paula Abdul back at his side? Rumors have been floating around that Cowell is trying to secure Abdul for the show, and according to him, he’s “doing his best” to make that happen.

If you’re interested in audition to become the next big star on X Factor and take home that unprecedented $5 million recording contract, Los Angeles auditions take place this Sunday, March 27th at the The L.A. Sports Arena. For more specific times and information, CLICK HERE and make your dream of becoming a star come true!
