A little late so save his job, but maybe not to late to save face. Comedian Gilbert Gottfried has apologized for his tasteless tweets the other day at the expense of Japanese victims of the earthquake and tsunami.

The comic returned to Twitter yesterday and tweeted, “Sincerely apologize to anyone who was offended by my attempt at humor regarding the tragedy in Japan. I meant no disrespect and my thoughts are with the victims and their families.”

Gottfried tweeted the insensitive joke, “I just split up with my girlfriend, but like the Japanese say ‘they’ll be another one floating by any minute now.” The tasteless joke sparked up controversy and even got him fired from his long running job as the voice of the AFLAC duck.
