The 3D remake of [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]The Beatles[/lastfm]‘ iconic 1968 film Yellow Submarine has sunk to the bottom of the ocean. Disney decided to scrap the movie, which was the project of Oscar-winning director Robert Zemeckis.
It’s being reported by the Hollywood Reporter that the remake of the movie has had nothing but problems from the start, including budget issues and a meeting which was canceled and never rescheduled by the remaining members of the group, which would make it difficult to shop the film to other studios.
Many insiders in Hollywood are saying the main reason for Disney putting a stop to the remake is because of Zemeckis’ current Disney film in theatre, Mars Needs Moms, which is being reported as being nothing short of a disaster at the box office.
AppleCorps, which has the rights to all of The Beatles’ music, gave Zemeckis permission in August of 2009 to use all 16 tracks from Yellow Submarine in the remake.
