Today’s ‘Tickets @ 2′ song of the day is “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” by [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]The Beatles[/lastfm].
After recording this, Paul had the idea of doing the whole album as if Sgt. Pepper was a real band. It became the title track of what was considered a “concept” album, with the songs running seamlessly together on the record.
The album was heavily produced and took 129 days and about 700 hours to complete. The Beatles first album, Please Please Me, was recorded in less than 10 hours.
The crowd noise was obviously dubbed in since The Beatles had stopped touring by then.
Three days after the album came out, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Jimi Hendrix[/lastfm] opened a concert with it. McCartney and Harrison were in the audience and were very impressed that Hendrix learned it so quickly.
When you hear it play between two and three this afternoon we’ll take caller # 7 at 1-800-232-KRTH (5784) to win tickets to see [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Kenny Loggins [/lastfm] at San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino!
