The band [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Queen[/lastfm] celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2011, but it seems like the fans are getting the presents: A new biopic centered on Freddie Mercury and a newly-mastered set of the band’s albums!

The Mercury biopic, long the topic of rumors, is “now fully underway,” according to a note from guitarist [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Brian May[/lastfm] posted to [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Queen[/lastfm]’s web site.

“[Screenwriter] Peter Morgan has delivered a first draft of the movie, which everyone is very excited about, and Sacha Baron Cohen is chomping at the bit to get into the role, in a way which certainly would delight Freddie!” May wrote.

The band has also received a script for a film adaptation of the [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Queen[/lastfm] musical “We Will Rock You.”

Meanwhile, the band will also release new remastered versions of much of its catalog.

“I know our fans will appreciate the attention to detail, bringing the early albums closer than ever to the magic of the vinyl originals but with the benefit of up-to-the-minute quality technology,” May said.

Which makes you more excited: A [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Freddie Mercury[/lastfm] biopic or a new release of the band’s classic albums?
