[lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Aretha Franklin[/lastfm] recently sat down with JET magazine to give an update on her ailing condition, but didn’t divulge any information that she’s suffering from pancreatic cancer.
“I am not going to even deal with that,” she tells JET magazine in her first interview since falling ill. “I don’t have to talk about my health with anybody other than my doctors. The problem has been resolved.”
She didn’t address what the “problem” was, but fans can rest easy knowing that her condition is getting better, even if she doesn’t talk about what it may be.
“There are a lot of people who will talk about anything, as long as there is somebody listening,” she says. “But I am not one of those people. That’s not Aretha.”
In the interview, she recalls feeling “a very hard pain in my side” while on tour in Toronto last year, which she thought was from a colonoscopy procedure done a couple of days before.
“I got up at 2 o’clock in the morning and called the doctor who did the colonoscopy and told him what was happening. He said, ‘Miss Franklin, whatever it is, it is not from the colonoscopy. You need to come home and have a CAT-scan.’ Thank God he said that because that unfolded everything, what the problem was and everything.”
Franklin is thankful to her fans for all their prayers and cards and asked for continued privacy “as I continue to recover.”
Though she’s not saying what exactly happened, she assures fans there’s nothing to be worried about, saying: “I know my fans are concerned. Let them know I am feeling great and coming along.”
We’re relieved to hear Aretha speak for the first time since her December 2nd surgery, and hopefully this is a sing the Queen of Soul will be back on her feet in no time.
