Alt-pop singer [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Alanis Morissette[/lastfm] once sang about rain on your wedding day being “ironic.” We’re still not sure about that, but it was the truth for [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Carlos Santana[/lastfm] in mid-December, as the guitar legend married drummer [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Cindy Blackman[/lastfm] on the island of Maui in Hawaii.
“The weather was kind of iffy, so we said, ‘Let’s just do it inside’, because no matter where we did it, the sun was shining,” Santana said.
The couple was able to incorporate the rain into the ceremony, symbolically washing their hands in rainwater to absolve themselves “of all things past and all things future except the two of us,” Blackman said. “It felt so clearing to do that.”
Santana, who has three grown children from a previous marriage (including son Salvador, an accomplished musician himself), sounds ready to tackle matrimony again.
“Cindy is a match with everything that I am, from fire of passion to vulnerability,” he said. “Everything tastes better when you share it with your soul mate.”
Big congrats to the newlyweds!
