Besides flooding and mudslides, another downside to all the rain we’ve been getting over the past few weeks is potholes. Have you noticed they are popping up everywhere? You see people swerving to avoid them so they don’t get a flat tire. If you are one of the unlucky ones to actually hit a pothole and get a flat tire, you can actually file a claim with the city, who will reimburse you for any repairs.
Even though the city is deploying teams of city workers to fill the potholes, they can’t possibly know about every single one. To report one, call 311 and follow the prompts. Or you can fill out an online request form.
If the link above doesn’t work for you, visit dpw.lacounty.gov and on the top right of the website, click on ‘Contact Public Works’ in the box titled ‘I Want To…’. Scroll down to ‘Report A Problem’ and click on the ‘Potholes’ link.
Here’s how to file a claim with LA City:
1. Get a claim form
- Call (213) 978-1133..they will send you one
- Go to cityclerk.lacity.org. Under On Line Reference & Forms, click on Claims for Damage
- Pick up a form at City Hall – Room 395
2. Fill out the form
Include photos of the damage and photos of the pothole
3. Return the form via US Mail, or in person within 6 months
Make sure you keep a copy for yourself.
