The Eagles’ version features Don Henley singing lead and appeared on the Christmas charts for nine consecutive season, eventually hitting #1 in 1972. Many other artists have recorded their own versions of the tune, including James Brown, B.B. King, Harry Connick Jr., Pat Benatar and many more.
