[lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Neil Diamond[/lastfm] will be recognized in 2011 with induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, according to a message on the singer and songwriter’s website.

“Any club that has [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Chuck Berry[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Little Richard[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]The Everly Brothers[/lastfm] is a club that I want to be a part of,” Diamond said.

Having been nominated in September of this year, Diamond, 69, will join [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]The Alice Cooper Band[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Dr. John[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Darlene Love[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Tom Waits[/lastfm] in the class of 2011.

Over the course of his career, Diamond’s songs have found the Billboard Top 40 a total of 37 times, most recently with “I’m Alive” in 1983. Since then, his music has been a fixture of the Adult Contemporary charts, most recently hitting number four there with “Cherry Cherry Christmas” in 2009.
