Video: Russian Prime Minister, Vladimir Putin Sings "Blueberry Hill" at Charity Event
Along with leading an entire government and nation, who knew that Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin can also lead a swingin’ jazz band! Putin showed off his hidden talents as a pianist and singer (even enunciating the English lyrics with precision) during a performance of “Blueberry Hill” at a charity event in St. Petersburg.
Introducing the classic hit popularized by [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Louie Armstrong[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Fats Domino[/lastfm] with a delicate piano solo, Putin stepped up to the mic and sang the entire song in front of a large crowd (which included plenty of celebs) while being backed by Maceo Parker’s jazz band.
The crowd looked just as surprised as we were when Vladimir Putin started singing “Blueberry Hill” — completely in English. He was approached by the hostess of the charity fundraiser that was dedicated to fighting children’s cancer to sing and play for the audience, to which he initially responded, “are you kidding me?”
But his softer side kicked in after seeing photos of ill children and he took the stage for the special performance, while warning the audience, “Like the majority of people I cannot — but do like to sing and to play — so you’ll have to rough it.”
The audience clapped and sang along (especially the guy at minute 1:32) in amazement of Putin’s surprise show. See how many American celebrities you can spot throughout the video! I spy a Goldie Hawn, Kurt Russell, Sharon Stone and more!
