Leslie Nielsen, the actor best known for his performances as Detective Frank Drebin in the Naked Gun films and as Dr. Rumak in Airplane! passed away Sunday at his Florida home. He was 84.

“We are saddened by the passing of beloved actor Leslie Nielsen, probably best remembered as Lt. Frank Drebin in ‘The Naked Gun’ series of pictures, but who enjoyed a more than 60-year career in motion pictures and television,” said his agent, John S. Kelly.

Nielsen was a dramatic actor early in his career, but is now known best as a funnyman, whether playing the bumbling Drebin or the lead in any number of farces over the last three decades.

Nielsen is survived by his wife and two daughters, neither of whom are named Shirley.
