Actress Mariette Hartley and Dancing With the Stars’ Mark Ballas came in the studio to discuss the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s Out of the Darkness Walk this Saturday.
It is a subject very close to their heart as they both experienced a family loss due to suicide, and they’re doing all they can to help out other victims and help save lives by standing up against suicide.
Hartley and Ballas went on to explain more about the research, walks, and organizations for suicide prevention connected with the AFSP. They are just two of the many celebrities and participants banding together this Saturday in the Out of the Darkness suicide walk.
They each use different coping methods to help deal with their losses. Hartley has written a powerful memoir titled, Breaking the Silence full of family secrets and stories of her experience. Along with being a professional dancer, Ballas is also a very talented musician and songwriter, and he uses the comforting power of music to help cope with the loss of his uncle to suicide.
Ballas also went on to talk about his experience on Dancing With The Stars with Bristol Palin and his close call getting the axe on last night’s show.
