I was in Nashville for a friend’s wedding recently, and you should know that it is a GREAT place to have a vacation. Not only can you find delicious food, but there are 10 blocks of bars and cafe’s with live Country music bands playing for tips in Downtown Nashville. So, you can guess where I spent some time.
The Country Music Hall of Fame is also in Nashville and it’s beautiful. They have a lot of information and personal belongings of K-EARTH 101 artists, including Elvis Presley and Roy Orbison. I highly recommend a visit. But, back to the food…
There’s a place in Nashville that’s so incredible that I’m still thinking about it. The restaurant is Monell’s, and they specialize in traditional Southern cuisine. Umm, umm! It’s in a house that’s been there since 1880. A garden and waiting area are the first things you’ll see, and for good reason. The restaurant serves customers at big communal tables that seat 12 people, so unless you’re arriving with a group of 12 you’ll have to wait for your table. It’s all “first come, first served” and they don’t take reservations, but wow, it’s worth the wait!
After you’ve been seated the show begins. It’s a “show’ that’s all about delicious food. The waitresses will greet you, invite you to help yourself to the pitchers of Sweet Tea and Orange Juice on the table and they’ll ask you to turn your Coffee Mug over if you want hot Coffee brought out and poured for you.
After a brief wait the foodie extravaganza begins. Large platters of food are brought to your table and passed around the table family style. First up: Hot Buttermilk Biscuits with Sausage Gravy, and Hot Cinnamon Rolls right out of the oven. Here’s a photo of them…
And the feast had just begun! The food just kept coming. Platters of scrambled eggs, corn pudding, fried apples, country ham, bacon and sausage, buttermilk pancakes, potato wedges, their famous skillet fried chicken and more are brought to the table for everyone to enjoy.
Because there are Nashville locals and tourists from all around the country seated together it feels a lot like Thanksgiving or Christmas. Everyone is friendly and conversational. Another really cool part of this is just because there’s a lot of food, it doesn’t mean they’ve cut corners on quality.
These are dishes made with a lot of expertise by professional chefs and you can taste it. They’re using high quality ingredients and authentic Southern recipes. This isn’t just something thrown together without any thought or skill. Everything that they serve is outstanding! You can taste the South in every wonderful bite.
Check out the platters of food in the photos below that I took before everyone dug in.
So, how much do you think this extravagant and delicious all-you-can-eat experience cost? Let me warn you that this info could blow your mind if you’re used to paying LA prices for everything.
Ok, the entire cost of the meal…everything…all-you can-eat…was a grand total of … $13.95 plus tax! Yes, really. $13.95.
So, next time you’re thinking of checking out Music City I highly recommend that you have a meal at Monell’s. They do breakfast, lunch and dinner and they didn’t pay for my meal or give me anything special to write this.
In fact, it was so good that I should be paying them for the privilege. Oh, yes, I did pay them … $13.95!
