Father, husband, and rock star; [lastfm]Rod Stewart[/lastfm] may be a man with multiple honors strewn across his Musical Mantle of Life, but all it takes for him to know that he’s got a hit song is for his wife Penny Lancaster to burst into tears. Stewart elicited that reaction when his wife heard his take on the Henry Mancini classic “Moon River” that he recorded for his Fly Me to the Moon … The Great American Songbook, Volume V out on October 19th.
Rod Stewart’s Great American Songbook will include popular standards like “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” “Beyond the Sea,” and “‘That Old Black Magic.”
Stewart’s wife, Penny Lancaster, is not only a staunch advocate of Stewart’s rendition of “Moon River,” she is also pregnant. Stewart jokes about J Records and their response to Lancaster’s vehemence:
“They seemed to have this aversion to it. I don’t know why. Iyou want to take up the fight with a 14-week pregnant woman, be my guest. They said, ‘Oh, we’ll back off now.'”
To celebrate the release of ‘Fly Me to the Moon,’ Stewart will kick off an eight-show stand at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on Nov. 6. What a wonderful early Christmas present that would be! Guaranteed to bring your wife to joyful tears!
