Beach Boys, The Musical?

It worked for [lastfm]ABBA[/lastfm], with Mamma Mia. It worked for [lastfm]Billy Joel[/lastfm] with “Movin’ Out.” It’s even worked for world artist [lastfm]Fela Kuti[/lastfm] with last year’s brilliant “Fela!” Now, it looks like the [lastfm]Beach Boys[/lastfm] are getting their own musical – and it’s going straight to the silver screen!

As as-yet-untitled movie will be a fictional story with [lastfm]Beach Boys[/lastfm] music as inspiration (and, of course, performances). The rights to the film belong to Fox 2000 and someone who knows the Boys well … John Stamos, who has played percussion for the [lastfm]Beach Boys[/lastfm] in the past, including banging on bongos in the video for “Kokomo.”

The 50th anniversary of the formation of the [lastfm]Beach Boys[/lastfm] comes in 2011. There is still no word on the rumored tour.

What songs would you like to see in a [lastfm]Beach Boys[/lastfm] movie? And do these “jukebox musicals,” where the story is told around one artist’s music, appeal to you?
