Rapper [lastfm]T.I.[/lastfm] was arrested for possession of a controlled substance. R&B singer [lastfm]Bruno Mars[/lastfm] was arrested for cocaine possession in Las Vegas.
[lastfm]El Debarge[/lastfm] knows their pain.
The singer, a member of the 80s group [lastfm]DeBarge[/lastfm] and a solo artist following, spent nearly two years in jail after a 2008 arrest for cocaine possession.
“My heart goes out to [lastfm]Bruno Mars[/lastfm], my heart goes out to [lastfm]T.I.[/lastfm],” DeBarge said. “I know there’s a lot of people out there experimenting with drugs. I know. I did it because I was curious. I said, ‘Hey, let me try this.’ And it took me 22 years to un-try. … They’re very talented and I’m here to show that the second chance is ours.”
DeBarge is getting his with his new album, “Second Chance,” due out later this year. But he said he didn’t get that second chance alone.
“I was praying the whole time while I was on drugs: ‘Oh God please, you got to get me off this. You got to help me,'” he claimed. “So he said, ‘OK.’ … Because I found out that God not only wanted me to have faith in him, but also to have faith in myself. And so once I did that, my confidence showed me that it was always there, I just had to believe it again.”
With the fame that is heaped upon young singers so early, do you think they can get clean? Or does it take divine intervention to see the right path?
