It’s been the worst kept secret of the 2010-11 television season, but now it’s official: [lastfm]Aerosmith[/lastfm] frontman [lastfm]Steven Tyler[/lastfm] and singer/actress [lastfm]Jennifer Lopez[/lastfm] will be joining Randy Jackson as the judges for the next season of “American Idol.”
“I’m so excited,” said Lopez. “I’m looking for the next [lastfm]Michael Jackson[/lastfm].”
“I want to bring some rock to this rollercoaster and show if you’ve got the heart, the talent, the feeling to do this you could be the next American Idol,” Tyler added.
Tyler’s contract terms have not been divulged. Some outlets are reporting that Lopez is making in the neighborhood of $12 million for the season.
The duo will bring some much needed credibility to the panel of judges, as both are platinum-selling artists many times over. Last season, the big addition was Ellen DeGeneres who, while well-loved, has never had much to do with music beyond the role of admirer.
With Simon Cowell and Kara DioGuardi departing as well as DeGeneres, the judging panel goes back to being a trio: Lopez, Tyler and Jackson, the only original left.
Will the changing of the guard make you want to watch the show next spring? Or will Idol never be the same without Cowell?
