Did You Know: Jimmy Buffet’s “Margaritaville”

I’m playing [lastfm]Jimmy Buffett[/lastfm]’s “Margaritaville” on today’s show and if you’re a true ‘Parrot Head’ I’m about to say something that you already knew.  He wrote the song in Key West, Florida sitting in the Old Anchor Inn after finishing a tour with the Coral Reefer Band.

He is the owner of Margaritaville stores in Key West, New Orleans, Jamaica, Charleston and Orlando, selling clothing and other items inspired by the song.

Jimmy got his B.A. degree in history and before making it big as a singer/composer, he worked as a staff writer for Billboard magazine in Nashville from 1969 to 1970. While in the home of country music, he tried and failed as a country singer.

He didn’t let rejection get him down, or ‘Waste Away in Margaritaville.”
