Singer [lastfm]George Michael[/lastfm] has had “One More Try” in court this week for driving under the influence. The consequences were a bit steeper for Michael this time around but it appears that he is finally trying to sing a different tune.On Tuesday, September 14, 47-year old George Michael (Georgios Panayiotou) was sentenced to eight weeks in a British jail after pleading guilty to driving his car while under the influence of marijuana. In addition to the 8-weeks, Michael was handed a fine of $1,934 and was banned from driving initially following his accident.
The singer’s latest drug-and-drive incident occurred on July 4th of this year, in which Michael was found looking dazed and confused behind the wheel of his Range Rover after wrecking it into a building in London.
Unfortunately for Michael, and anyone that drives a vehicle on the London roads, this was not his first offense:
On two different occasions in 2006, the singer was found slumped over the steering wheel of his car, and also in that year, he hit three other cars as he was trying to leave a parking space.
On the bright side, though, Michael has finally recognized the brevity of his repeat offenses and checked into a rehabilitation facility immediately following the July 4th accident.
The “Faith” star successfully completed the 14-day detox program and has been doing regular check-ins.
Let’s hope that Michael stays on the wagon, and far away from the wheel of a car just in case his terrible driving isn’t entirely a result of substance abuse.
