It was 54 years ago today when [lastfm]Elvis Presley[/lastfm] made his first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show from CBS Television City in Los Angeles, where he peformed “Don’t Be Cruel,” “Love Me Tender” and “Ready Teddy.”

1965 – An ad ran in The Hollywood Reporter which said ‘Madness folk & roll musicians, singers wanted for acting roles in new TV show. Parts for 4 insane boys. ‘  That is how [lastfm]The Monkees[/lastfm] were born.

1968  -  [lastfm]The Beatles[/lastfm] recorded “Helter Skelter” at Abbey Road Studios.

1972 -  It was the beginning of [lastfm]Jim Croce[/lastfm]‘s song “You Don’t Mess Around With Jim” being at number one in the U.S. music charts.
