Yoko Ono Says ‘Umm, No’ To Beatles iTunes Deal
Steve Jobs, you’re a rich man, but you aren’t getting any of [lastfm]The Beatles[/lastfm] bankroll anytime soon. Not if the quintessential “band girlfriend” [lastfm]Yoko Ono [/lastfm] has anything to do with it. Or is that the real reason? Why won’t the shareholders of Apples Corps give their fans a little iTunes lovin’? We know the best things in life are free, but we want to spend money on [lastfm]Beatles[/lastfm] songs!
We guess there is “an element” of legal downloading is just too “normal” and “corporate” for Mistress [lastfm]Yoko Ono[/lastfm]. She has informed fans not to “hold their breath” in anticipation…apparently because she takes issue with how Steve Jobs handles things?
“[Apple co-founder] Steve Jobs has his own idea and he’s a brilliant guy. There’s just an element that we’re not very happy about, as people. We are holding out. Don’t hold your breath, for anything.”
When Ono says “we,” she is speaking of all the current shareholders of Apple Corps: [lastfm]Paul McCartney[/lastfm], [lastfm]Ringo Starr[/lastfm] and the widow of [lastfm]George Harrison[/lastfm], Olivia Harrison. While she has no problem speaking for all of them, there may be a little confusion among the Fab Four estate; [lastfm]Paul McCartney[/lastfm] told press earlier this year that he thought it was [lastfm]The Beatles[/lastfm] record label EMI that was holding out.
Yoko: Your lovin’ may have given John a thrill, but your lovin’ is not payin’ the rest of [lastfm]The Beatles'[/lastfm] bills. Now give us MP3s. That’s what we want.
