Co-founder and singer/keyboardist of the Allman Brothers Band, Gregg Allman went under the knife in a successful liver transplant Wednesday morning.  The southern rocker is expected to make a full recovery, but will it be in time for their band’s solo shows?

Gregg Allman underwent a liver transplant in Jacksonville, Florida’s Mayo Clinic after years of battling with Hepatitis C.  He’s been on a waitlist for a liver transplant since 2007, and with a new organ he’s expected to make a quick recovery.

I changed my ways years ago, but we can’t turn back time. Every day is a gift, and I can’t wait to get back on the road making music with my friends.

The surgery forced the band to cancel their show at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival at Chicago’s Toyota Park this Saturday, with the Derek Trucks Band replacing them on the lineup.  The [lastfm]Allman Brothers Band[/lastfm] has two solo shows this September, but there’s no word yet if the shows will be also be canceled due to the surgery.
