Steely Dan Member Gets Computerized
Donald Fagen, half of Steely Dan (Walter Becker is the other half, just in case you don’t know) is working on his next solo project — and he’s doing most of it on computers.
The vocalist is prepping an album for 2011. The project will avoid the studio environment in favor of computer recordings via the program ProTools. The studio work that he does employ is happening at Stratosphere Sound in New York.
Donald has rolled out a solo LP about once every ten years, beginning with 1982’s The Nightfly and continuing on with 1993’s Kamakiriad and 2006’s Morph The Cat.
As for the new project, Donald says,”This one does not have a theme but they are good stories — most of my songs have a plot. The album, or CD, or whatever they call it these days should be out next year.”
In related news, Donald is preparing to tour with [lastfm]Boz Scaggs[/lastfm] and [lastfm]Michael McDonald[/lastfm] on “The Dukes of September Rhythm Revue” beginning October 2nd with a show in Las Vegas.
