[lastfm]Creedence Clearwater Revival[/lastfm]’s leader John Fogerty, who later went solo with hits like “Jambalaya (On The Bayou)” and “Old Man Down The Road,” will get into a different hall of fame, thanks to another one of his solo tunes, “Centerfield.” Find out what it’s for after the jump!

John was inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, but will now take his place among superstars of another genre, the great American pastime, BASEBALL, when the next MLB Hall of Fame ceremonies take place in Cooperstown, New York on July 25th.

John’s song will garner him “special recognition” with the hall as it is inducted into that fabled institution of baseball.

John says that when he learned that the tune was being enshrined, he found it hard to believe, noting “It’s one of those things that you’re not sure you heard right because, as they say, it came out of left field.”

He added, “It was just so unusual because it’s not an occurrence that they do with the baseball Hall of Fame.  I had to kind of think about it a while to make sure it was actually real!”

The former CCR frontman and rock ‘n’ roll legend will attend the event and perform the song during the July festivities.

Over the years, “Centerfield” has become a staple of the game.  The 1985 hit is regularly played during baseball games throughout the country all summer long, and for more than a decade, it’s been featured in Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremonies.

I love that song. If any song represents baseball it’s Centerfield. That’s the true meanning of baseball and summertime.. One of my favorite songs.
