The L.A. Angels of Anaheim are in the Guinness Book of World Records, not for thier prowess on the diamond, but for their fans in the stands. The first 30,000 fans attending the game were given fleece blankets with newly aquired player Hideki Matsui’s name and number on the blankets.
A Guinness official was on hand to make sure that at the given moment all 30,000 fans put on the blankets. The previous record was 17,758 set March 5th at a Cleveland Cavaliers baketball game.
What’s amazing to me is the fact that the Angels really draw, and the fans are for the most part nice, wearing Angels red supporting the team night after night. I remember once way back when attending an Angels game, walking up to a ticket window and asking: “What do you have behind first base?” To which the person behind the window said:”First base”! Gimme two….!!! That was in the days when Don Wells and Bud Blatner were the play by play guys for those of you who grew up with the Angels. In those days forget about 30, 000 in attendance, they were lucky to get three or four thousand people to show up.
