Micheal Jackson’s estate that is.
That’s right in the 6 a.m. ‘Entertainment Report’ I told you how the King of Pop”s estate signed a deal with Sony Corporation that calls for the release of 10 albums by the year 2017. It took the two sides about nine months to negotiate the deal which is worth, get this, 250 million dollars…
That deal, according to the New York Daily News as well as The Wall Street Journal, is the richest record contract in history. The albums will be a mix of unreleased and old tunes. Apparently they have enough material for three albums and you can expect the first one by the end of the year. The deal will also allow Sony and Michael’s estate to collaborate on licensing arrangements for the use of his music on tv, film, and stage shows.
In the 7 a.m. ‘Entertainment Report’ I dropped very surprising news about Kate Winslet.
After 3 yrs., and one son, Kate and director Sam Mendes will be dissolving their marriage and getting a divorce. The couple have been apart since January but are still committed to joint parenting. Kate and Sam also raised her daughter from a previous marriage. Mendes directed his wife in “Revolutionary Road” which earned he a “Golden Globe”. Some say that all was good until they did a film about a troubled marriage. Also in the 7 a.m. report we reported that Charlie Sheen was in an Aspen Court room yesterday where he plead not guilty to charges stemming a domestic ordeal with his wife on Christmas Day, A trial has been set for July 21st but the hope is to settle before then. If found guilty Charlie could face up to 3 yrs. in prison. He recently entered rehab in hopes of making the charges go away and also, he’s back on the set of “2 and 1/2 Men. He is on set by day and in rehab by night.
In the 8 a.m. ‘Entertainment Report’ I told you about Paula Abdul making her return to television but not in the position we thought.
We thought she would join old pal Simon Cowell on “The X-Factor” but instead she will reportedly headline her own show…the new “Star Search” on ABC. She will reportedly host and judge the updated version. ABC had been in negotiations with Paula since last summer. The show will air this summer. Of course you know the original “Star Search” premiered in 1983 and was hosted by Ed McMahon.
