robeta flack Top Ten THIS WEEK in 1973

[lastfm]Roberta Flack[/lastfm] holds down the number one spot in the country this week.  She’s spending her 4th week on top after dislodging [lastfm]Elton John[/lastfm]‘s “Crocodile Rock” from the pole position after his 3 week stay.

Hard to believe, but the “Crock Rock” was Elton’s FIRST number one song after almost 2 1/2 years on the national charts; starting with his first hit, “Your Song.”

There will be plenty of #1’s to follow for Sir Elton.  He’ll become the biggest recording star of the 70’s.

“Crocodile Rock” has dropped out of the Top Ten this week, but Elton’s next release, “Daniel,” will be big, peaking at #2 in the country in late May/early June!

Here’s the list (last week’s position in brackets like this!)

1.    Killing Me Softly With His Song/[lastfm]Roberta Flack[/lastfm] (1)

2.    Dueling Banjos/[lastfm]Eric Weissberg[/lastfm] (2)

3.    Love Train/[lastfm]The O’Jays[/lastfm] (5) — will be #1 NEXT week!  Roberta Flack will return to the #1 spot for one more week after a week’s stay by the O’Jays; giving her a total of 5 weeks at the top!

4.    Also Sprach Zarathustra (2001)/[lastfm]Deodato[/lastfm] (6)

5.    Last Song/[lastfm]Edward Bear[/lastfm] (3)

6.    The Cover of Rolling Stone/[lastfm]Dr. Hook[/lastfm] (8)

7.    Could It Be I’m Falling In Love/[lastfm]The Spinners[/lastfm] (4)

8.    Neither One Of Us (Wants To Be The First)/[lastfm]Gladys Knight[/lastfm] (16)

9.    Daddy’s Home/[lastfm]Jermaine Jackson[/lastfm] (10)

10.  Danny’s Song/[lastfm]Anne Murray[/lastfm] (15)
