Rumours (British spelling :-)) were circulating this week that EMI in the UK was in financial straits and planned on selling off the famous ABBEY ROAD STUDIOS, where most of the Fab Four’s tunes were recorded, to lessen the load, since it was getting increasingly difficult to “carry that weight” (our quote, a clever reference to a [lastfm]Beatles[/lastfm] song).
Beatle fans and the citizenry of England were up in arms, saying, “What goes on?” (another quote made up by us, in yet another clever reference to a Beatle song).
“What if the studios were acquired and then torn down to make room for a HOUSING PROJECT, or, worse yet, a MINI-MALL??
Not to worry…Britains’ Culture Minister announced yesterday that the studios will be declared a national historic landmark, and at the same time, EMI has come out and said that it was NOT their intention to divest themselves of the property.
“We should have known better…” (another clever reference to……oh, never mind…..)
